If you missed the opening for ARTiculation 2014 at Viva Vida Art Gallery this past Friday you missed an amazing event. There was some awesome artwork to enjoy and on top of that there were 3 different musical performances and more then 10 different poets giving readings of their work. It was a truly inspiring evening!. The video gives you a little bit of an idea, if you’re interested in seeing some of the performances of the night you should subscribe to Viva Vida Art Gallery’s YouTube channel. Several videos of the performances will be uploaded later this week. I promise you it’s worth checking out! I posted some pictures of the event as well, you can check them out here. This week I will be taping and editing the next episode of Creative Ramblings and hopefully there will be some time left to spend in the studio. I’m looking forward to some good painting days!
Happy Monday everyone! Although we’re still freezing up here in Montreal (-16C this morning!), it is another beautiful day outside. The snow is white, the skies are blue and the sun is showing its face :) Days like this make me so happy! I have to admit, having frozen hair after putting the garbage out is not awesome but it does help to wake you up! ;)
First of all, today is Vlog day! a new episode of Creative Ramblings is online now! This time I will be giving a demonstration on the direct transfer technique.
This week is promising to be a good one! Tonight I will be starting another series of acrylic gel transfer classes at Viva Vida Art Gallery, there are still a few of openings, and it is possible to catch up when you start a week later. There are loads of new pieces waiting for me in the studio! I finished a couple of new pieces last week, so there will be some varnishing going on as well :) I still have to finish my piece for the ARTiculation 2014 show at Viva Vida Art Gallery (which will be opening this Friday but more on that later), so I’m eager to get back into the studio. So much work is waiting for me! I love it!
Now for the show this upcoming Friday, this one is going to be awesome! Really, if you love art, poetry and music, Viva Vida Art Gallery is going to be the place to be this upcoming Friday! ARTiculation 2014 is a celebration of word and image in art- and it will be an evening filled with music, poetry, and art. The event will start at 7pm, there will be poetry readings starting at 8pm and we will close the evening with several live music performances. This is going to be the first exhibit of the 2014 season at Viva Vida Art Gallery so everyone should come out and celebrate!
I have also donated three 8”x8” artworks to the Montreal ArtBomb Art Marketplace event that will take place on April 10th at the E.K. Voland Art Gallery. Last week I told you about the interview that the West Island Chronicle posted about my experiences exhibiting at the Louvre in Paris in 2011. When I wrote my past last week the interview had only been posted on their website, I had been told that it would be printed in Wednesdays paper on page 10 so on Wednesday morning I went out to score myself a copy :) I was totally blown away when I stepped into the library and my own face was staring at me from the front page! I was even more stunned when I opened the paper and my article filled an entire page! It’s kind of weird to see your own face in the paper like that. I am super happy with the article, which you can read here and I am really grateful to the people at the West Island Chronicle and to François Lemieux, the journalist that did the article, in particular.
The photo’s they used were taken on a beautiful but freezing cold Friday morning, the journalist and I spent 30 minutes braving a -30C windchill to get those shots. People passing by shot us some very puzzled looks, they were probably wondering why on earth two people would choose to stand in the middle of a street with a painting while pointing at a church, haha! And although I was questioning our sanity at the time and you can tell from my expression that I’m really, really cold, I am very happy we went through all that trouble. I think the idea of showing the picture together with one of the represented buildings is awesome and that amazing blue sky certainly makes the pictures pop!
This week I have a huge amount of work to complete. I’m working on a piece that needs to be finished before the Articulation show at Viva Vida Art Gallery and I have a total of 12 pieces in different stages that are all vying for my attention. So no time to dally on the computer any longer, it’s back to the studio for this artist! :) Have a good week you guys!
Two awesome articles about my work came out this past week, on Wednesday Les Nouvelles Saint-Laurent News posted a lovely interview about ‘Discoveries: Montreal’ and the ‘Saint-Laurent’ piece that is part of the series. On Friday the West Island Chronicle posted an interview about my experiences exhibiting at the Louvre in Paris in 2011. It’s not easy to get media coverage as an artist so I am very grateful to François Lemieux, the journalist who made this all happen. I also have to thank my fellow artist and friend Louis-Bernard St-Jean who introduced the journalist to my work. Louis-Bernard is an amazing artist who creates these beautiful abstract oil pieces that depict the dynamic movement of nature’s elements and of contemporary urban architecture, you should definitely check out his work!

Last week I finished another one of my new abstract pieces and I ordered a whole bunch of new textured mediums to prepare for a large 24”x48” abstract piece that I have planned. I also started about 6 new compositions last week so there’s plenty of work awaiting me in the studio, which is the best way to start a new week in my opinion! :)
